Compare Yeti 500 + Skylight and Yeti 300 + Skylight bundles by capacity, price, and intended use to find the right solar generator with light for your needs.
Quick answer
Choose the Yeti 500 + Skylight bundle if you need extra capacity for longer trips or higher-power devices; choose the Yeti 300 + Skylight bundle if you want a lighter, more compact option for short outings and basic lighting.
Capacity difference: 499 Wh vs 297 Wh
The most important difference between these two bundles is battery capacity. The Yeti 500 holds 499 watt hours, while the Yeti 300 holds 297 watt hours. That extra 202 watt hours can power a small appliance for a couple more hours or charge your devices several times over.
If you mainly need to run lights and charge phones and tablets, the Yeti 300 will likely be enough. But if you want to power a mini cooler, a CPAP machine, or a small TV, the Yeti 500 gives you more headroom before needing a recharge.
Price and value
The Yeti 500 + Skylight bundle is priced at USD 557.94, while the Yeti 300 + Skylight bundle costs USD 554.93. That is only a three-dollar difference, so the Yeti 500 gives you significantly more capacity for virtually the same price.
Given the tiny price gap, the Yeti 500 is the better value unless weight or size is your primary concern. The Yeti 300 is still a solid choice if you want a more compact unit that is easier to carry on short hikes or day trips.
Portability and ruggedness
Both power stations are described as compact, rugged, and designed for outdoor adventures. They can handle mud, dirt, dust, and water, so either bundle will survive a camping trip or a day at the beach.
The Yeti 300 is the smaller of the two, so it will be lighter and easier to pack. If you are backpacking or moving frequently, the Yeti 300 may be the better fit. If you are car camping or setting up a base camp, the extra capacity of the Yeti 500 is worth the extra weight.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Capacity vs portability: The Yeti 500 offers 499 Wh, which is 202 Wh more than the Yeti 300's 297 Wh. That extra capacity lets you run higher-wattage devices or extend runtime, but the Yeti 300 is lighter and easier to carry. If you need maximum runtime, choose the Yeti 500; if you need maximum portability, choose the Yeti 300.
- Price difference is minimal: The Yeti 500 + Skylight bundle costs only USD 3 more than the Yeti 300 + Skylight bundle, making the Yeti 500 the better value in terms of cost per watt hour. When price is nearly the same, the Yeti 500 gives you more power for your money.
- Ruggedness is equal: Both the Yeti 500 and Yeti 300 are described as compact, rugged, and able to handle mud, dirt, dust, and water, so outdoor durability is not a deciding factor. Focus your decision on capacity and size rather than ruggedness.
